But it is a cool idea - to stand in a very specific spot and know exactly what it means!
Technically you can't stand "on" the "X" spot - there is a pole there, but you can be almost on the exact spot!
What I love about this place is that it is found at someone's home, Leroy Humphries to be exact at his 7 Up 7 Down Ranch. We didn't get to meet him when we went, but he's got an open ranch door policy that allows you to come and visit - for free.
The technical term is the geocentric point of a map. The other center of New Mexico is the geographic center which is about 14 miles from here and has no pole, so this is definitely the better destination spot!
In visiting, I tried to imagine what you would want to know so you can come visit also! We left from Mountainair, NM and headed east to the town of Willard which is about 11 miles or so.
You take a right onto Hwy 42 and head south. You know you are going in the right direction when the wind turbines get bigger and closer!
Just point your self towards the wind turbines again - they are very handy in keeping you on track!
I hope you enjoyed our adventure and that you will extend your visit to say hi to all of us here in Mountainair!
